Health Screening

Preparation prior to screening

Health screening can feel a bit stressful if it’s your first time. The process may be different for everyone, depending on what is included in the screening package. It can take 3-4 hours or even a whole morning or afternoon. Here are some important guidelines to help you prepare and get the best results from your screening

CT - Computed Tomography

What is a CT scan?

A CT (Computed Tomography) scan uses X-rays from multiple angles to capture images of the body.
These images are reconstructed by a computer to create cross-sectional views of the inside of the body.
This method is useful for detecting abnormalities and diseases in various organs.

CT Scan Procedure

  • The test usually takes 5 to 15 minutes. You will need to lie still and stay relaxed inside the machine.
  • A contrast agent may be used if needed for better results.
  • If contrast is used, do not eat or drink for at least 6 hours before the test.

Contrast material

  • What to Know Before Using Contrast Material
If you have allergies, asthma, heart disease, past drug reactions, other medical conditions, or take diabetes medication , please tell your healthcare provider before the test. These conditions can increase the chance of side effects .
For those with diabetes, some medicines with metformin (such as Glucophage, Glupa, Diabex, Galvus, or Janumet) may put stress on your kidneys.
To stay safe, do not take these medicines for at least 48 hours after the test .
  • How the Contrast Material is Given
The contrast material will be injected into a vein using a larger needle. During the injection, you may feel warmth in your face, chest, or belly, and notice a metallic taste in your mouth. You might also feel warmth where the needle is placed. These are normal and nothing to worry about.
  • Possible Side Effects
Some people may have mild side effects after the injection, including:
    • Headache
    • Hives or itching
    • Coughing or a runny nose
    • Skin rash
    • Shortness of breath
Most side effects go away on their own, but if they last longer or feel worse, medication can help.
