Health Screening

Preparation prior to screening

Health screening can feel a bit stressful if it’s your first time. The process may be different for everyone, depending on what is included in the screening package. It can take 3-4 hours or even a whole morning or afternoon. Here are some important guidelines to help you prepare and get the best results from your screening

General Guidelines

Fasting

  • Avoid eating meat, drinking alcohol, or overworking yourself for 2–3 days before the screening.
  • Have a light dinner around 7 PM the day before. After 10 PM, do not eat or drink anything, including water, cigarettes, gum, candy, or mints.
  • If your screening includes a colonoscopy, follow the instructions in the colonoscopy preparation guide.
  • Not following the diet rules before a colonoscopy may leave waste in your intestines, even if you take all the laxatives. This could make it hard to perform the procedure or lead to inaccurate results.

Medication Guidelines

  • If you take medicines for heart disease, brain conditions, asthma, lung disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes, let the staff know during your pre-screening consultation.
  • If you use Anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs (blood thinners like Warfarin, Xarelto, Pradaxa, Eliquis, or Heparin or like Aspirin, Plavix, Anplag, Pletal, or Astrix), talk to your doctor before the screening to check if you need to stop them temporarily.
  • On the screening day, do not take diabetes medicines (like Diabex, Galvus, Janumet, or Amaryl) or insulin injections.
  • Take blood pressure and anticonvulsant medicines around 5 AM with a small sip of water. If you forget to take them, bring the medicine with you to the screening.

Preparation
for Screening

  • You will get a mobile questionnaire by text 2 days before your screening. Please fill it out early and bring it with you.
  • If you need to bring a stool sample, follow the instructions and use the container provided.
  • Don’t drive yourself if you are having sedation endoscopy.
  • The screening is by appointment, so please arrive on time.

Stool Sample Collection

  • When to Collect: Collect your stool sample the night before or on the day of your screening using the provided container.

How to Use the Container

  1. Check your name on the container to make sure it’s correct.
  2. Use the scoop on the lid to collect small pieces from 3–4 spots (about the size of a pea).

Collection Reminders

  1. Use fresh stool since old samples can affect the test results.
  2. If you are on your period, avoid getting menstrual blood in the sample.
  3. If you are taking laxatives for a colonoscopy, collect the stool before taking the laxatives.

Guidelines for Female Patients

  • If you might be pregnant, you must confirm your pregnancy status before the screening.
  • If you are pregnant, X-ray, CT, and PET-CT are not allowed.
  • If you are breastfeeding, some tests like breast exams, contrast tests, and sedation endoscopy may be restricted.
  • Screening is allowed during menstruation, but urine tests cannot be done, and gynecological exams may be difficult if your flow is heavy.

Additional Guidelines

  • Wear glasses instead of contact lenses for the eye exam. (Hard lenses are not allowed.)
  • Leave necklaces, earrings, and rings at home.
  • If you had surgery or stent procedures (heart or brain) within the last year, you might not be able to have an endoscopy.
