After Your Endoscopy: Important Information
Stomach discomfort may happen from air used during the test. A warm compress on your stomach can help.
For your first meal, eat soft, easy-to-digest foods.
- The sedative may cause dizziness, nausea, vomiting, or coughing.
- Do not drive or do any activities needing focus or safety for the rest of the day after a
sedative endoscopy.
- The scan usually takes 20 minutes to over an hour.
After Upper GI Endoscopy:
- Throat discomfort and pain, Blood-tinged saliva or phlegm

- These symptoms should go away with time. Gargling with lukewarm water can help ease them.
- Jaw pain

- This is usually temporary. Applying a warm compress to the painful area can help relieve it.
After Colonoscopy
- Changes in bowel movements

- This may be temporary, but monitor your symptoms. If they continue, please see a doctor.
- Bleeding and pain around the anus

- Minor bleeding may occur. Sitz baths are recommended to relieve pain.
